Maryam and Charlotte

Maryam Duale
Maryam Duale is 24 years old. She was born a Muslim and has been practising for the last six years. She was born in Somalia and left following the outbreak of the civil war. She and her family lived briefly in Kenya before moving to England.
She has moved home around 17 times during her life, which has helped shape her identity as a global citizen. She studied Design and Art Direction at university and worked as a web designer before realising her passion lay in her community work.
Charlotte Flowers
Charlotte is a 21-year-old Christian who is originally from Dudley in the West Midlands. She studied Theology at Oxford University, graduating in November.
Since the age of 15, she has travelled to various developing countries. She most recently visited Rwanda where she took part in Discover Rwanda with the charity Aegis Trust, researching the genocide. She has since become an ambassador for Rwanda to educate people about the genocide and the needs there.
Whilst at university, she undertook several roles within charitable societies. She was Vice President of Oxford RAG (Raise and Give) which fundraised nearly £120,000 last year for various charities. She also led an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign for the charity Face AIDS, creating the first UK chapter of the US charity.
When at home, she plays guitar in a band at her local church, loves to play football and is an avid fan of West Bromwich Albion Football Club.
Tzedek – London, UK
Tzedek is the UK Jewish community's response to extreme poverty. They seek to raise awareness, educate and encourage Jews to recognise, understand and act on to their Jewish responsibilities concerning extreme poverty around the world. Tzedek aims to nurture and empower open-minded Jewish community leaders to promote the fight against extreme poverty.
