Andrea and Shazia

Andrea Choi

Washington - Christian

‘Be the change Christ wishes to see!’ were the words that propelled Andrea, a 26-year-old Christian, to work for three years in 21 countries with GBA Ships, an educational charity operating the world’s largest floating book fairs.

Serving first in MV Doulos’ Media Team, Andrea then worked in MV Logos Hope’s Advance Preparation Team as Project Coordinator and later as Project Manager. She managed projects that involved all members of society, from heads of state to those living in abject poverty.

Prior to her global rendezvous, Andrea lived in Korea, the US and Japan, studied International Studies at Ewha Women’s University and worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the ROK.

Her passion for education and youth empowerment paved the way for her to be part of Global Changemakers, a network of young leaders supported by the British Council. Representing Global Changemakers, Andrea participated in several high level events; she was one of the youngest panellists ever at the 2007 World Economic Forum in Davos where she shared a stage with former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan.

Shazia Ali

Washington - Muslim
Facebook Profile Twitter Profile Email Donate at JustGiving

Shazia Ali is 22 years old and hails from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She attended Marquette University where she received a double major in Biomedical Sciences and Biological Sciences.

While at Marquette, she was Vice President of the Muslim Student Association for two years, held various positions in student government, and during her senior year served as the student representative to the Alumni National Board for the university.

She enjoys teaching others and spent time as a teaching assistant for anatomy, her favourite course. She is a practising Muslim, and Islam informs her way of acting in the world to a large degree, inspiring her to reach towards greater gentleness, humility, and kindness in her interactions with others.
