New Faiths Act Fellows at the International Development and Relief Foundation
It was great to finally become part of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation team and welcome the two Fellows in July into International Development and Relief Foundation’s (IDRF) fold.
Eric Farr and Farhana Rahman are amazing young people, full of energy, enthusiasm and lots of great ideas! Within a day they were part of the IDRF team exchanging some great suggestions for inter-faith mingling and for expanding IDRF’s constituency.
Focused on working towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, Farhana, a Muslim with a background in conflict resolution and international development, and Eric, a Bahá'í with experience in Religious Studies and education, bring their varied skill sets to IDRF as Faiths Act Fellows and will be helping IDRF further its humanitarian effort and to expand and deepen its programs.
Working towards increasing the presence of IDRF in Toronto’s interfaith and youth cultures, they hope to inspire and engage varied communities to join IDRF in a sustainable collaboration.
Their final goal is IDRF’s Annual event – the Afternoon BBQ and Family Day – which takes place in the summer.
In the coming year this summer event’s date is tentatively scheduled for late August – designed as the last summer blast before schools re-open in Fall. This year, in keeping with the MDGs and the Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s commitment, the funds raised will be allocated to maternal health programs.
Planned as a fun-filled day with delicious, freshly barbecued chicken, burgers and pizza to appease all tastes, the IDRF Annual Afternoon BBQ and Family Day promises to enthrall everyone. And with Farhana and Eric as part of our team, we are sure to embrace many new participants, forming a healthy mix of varied ethnicities and cultures. To spice up the scene we will also have live entertainment throughout the day and sporting competitions like Mini Soccer and Ultimate Frisbee!
At IDRF, we are looking forward to getting started on this project in the fall. And we have great hopes for Farhana and Eric and are confident they will contribute to the lofty values and tradition of exemplary aid and development which is IDRF’s motto.
